We love wood!

We carefully select the finest quality wood to make our furniture so that it is durable, looks beautiful and is also environmentally sustainable. Here is a little information about the wood we use and why we love it:

Mahogany
Mahogany refers to numerous varieties of dark-coloured hardwoods and is an American Indian word originally used for West Indian or Cuban mahogany. It has a straight grain and is reddish-brown in colour which sheens when polished. It’s extremely durable and has been a favourite amongst furniture-makers since the American colonies first started using it in the mid 1700’s.
Oak
Oak trees (scientific name being Quercus or Lithocarpus) are members of the Beech family and can live for over 200 years. It is native to the northern hemisphere where about 400 different species exist. Oak wood is extremely strong, hard and very resistant to insect and fungal attacks. It also has those beautiful grain markings which make it ideal for fine furniture.

Cherry
The cherry tree is part of the group of fruit trees and plants known as Prunus with over 430 species spread around the world. Over 2 million tonnes of cherry fruit is produced worldwide each year. Cherry wood is a more specialised timber within the furniture industry where larger species such as the wild cherry are normally used.
